Men's ACHA Division 1 Ice Hockey

ACHA Hockey Defeats Buffalo 5-2

ADRIAN, Mich. - The ACHA men's hockey team got a win in front of their fans on Friday night at the Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs beat the Bulls 5-2 to earn their fifth win of the season.

Milo Miller gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the first period. Mike Yakamovich was credited with the assist on the power play goal. Adrian was able to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission due to a goal from Mark Eberline. Yakamovich earned his second assist of the night on the goal.

Yakamovich remained hot in the second period by scoring a goal to increase the Adrian lead to 3-0. Yakamovich now has two goals on the season with six assists. Jared Semple picked up his second assist of the game off the Yakamovich goal.

Greg Reed cut the Bulldog lead to 3-1 nearly two minutes later in the second period. Patrick Beyer and John Kulpa each recorded an assist on the goal.

Senior Trevor Markovich scored the final goal of the second period at the 16 minute mark on a Bulldog power play. Tony Aukskalnis earned his fifth assist of the season on the goal.

Each team scored a power play goal in the third period. Jeff LeRoy scored his goal off an assist from Chad Bonmon. Adrian was 3 for 7 on power plays while the Bulls went 1 for 6.

Matt Welch was the goalkeeper for the Bulldogs. Welch made four saves in the first period, but was more active in the second period when the Bulls had 11 shots on goal. He ended the game with 16 saves. The Buffalo goalkeeper was under pressure all night. Adrian had 43 shots on goal compared to 18 from Buffalo.

The two teams will play game two of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon, October 25th at 2:00 p.m.
