TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -
The Bulldogs could not salvage a split with Rose-Hulman on Sunday as the Engineers got a strong starting pitching performance from Derek Eitel in a 3-2 win over Adrian. Eitel gave up two first-inning runs but then settled down over the next seven to scatter just three hits improving to 3-1 on the season. Nick Sarkissian (1-1) got the starting nod for the Bulldogs and went 5.2 innings allowing five hits and three earned runs. He struggled with his control issuing five walks and also struck out two batters.
Adrian got on the board early thanks to a two-run single by Brett Miskokomon who plated Todd Meyers and Kris Powell with two outs. Rose-Hulman got all their offense in a three-run third inning off Sarkissian. Catcher Keenan Long had the game-winning RBI's with two outs as he singled home Chandler Kent and Andrew Bilse to give the Engineers a 3-2 lead.
Ryan Domschott relieved Sarkissian and went two innings allowing no hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Powell went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored in the two spot. Miskokomon went 2-for-4 with two RBI as the designated hitter. Jake Cappelletty collected the other hit going 1-for-4. The Bulldogs left eight runners on base as Rose-Hulman also left eight runners stranded. Adrian (7-3) is set to begin MIAA play this Wednesday, March 19 as they travel to Alma College for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader against the Scots.
