The home opener for ACHA Division I hockey was a big success with a 7-3 win over Minot State on Thursday night at Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs scored 33 seconds into the game as Tom Ciaverilla fired a wrist shot in the top right corner between the circles to give AC a quick 1-0 lead. AC would add two more goals in the first and lead 3-0 after 20 minutes. Andrew Amodeo scored on the power play from the right point at 8:06 and Ciaverilla added his second of the period also on the power play at 13:17.
Adrian added three more goals in the second period to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Amodeo scored at even strength at 7:35 with an assist from Kevin Sunde for his second of the game. Jack Goodell scored at 9:14 on a shot that hit the crossbar and right pipe with an assist from Spencer Bonomo. Captain Jared Semple scored on a breakaway at 10:48 with an assist from Ciaverilla to give AC the six-goal advantage.
Minot State outscored Adrian, 3-1, in the third period and scored the first two goals of the third. The Beavers scored at 4:14 and 6:36 but Adrian snapped any momentum as Bonomo scored a shorthanded goal at 13:10 streaking out of the box and beating the goaltender on the right side.
Minot State outshot Adrian, 26-22, and Adrian goaltender Tim McDougall got the win with 23 saves in net. Adrian was 2-of-6 on the power play. Joey Coffin had two assists for the Bulldogs. Adrian has won four straight and outscored their opponents, 24-8, in the process. The team plays three games this weekend at the ACHA Showcase in Boardman, Ohio. They take on Pittsburgh, Arizona State and Oklahoma in the next 72 hours.
