Baseball Drops Opener, 8-5, at University of Dallas

IRVING, Tex. - The nationally-ranked baseball team dropped their season opener at the University of Dallas, 8-5, on Sunday and led 5-1 after three and a half innings before allowing single runs in the fourth and fifth, two more runs in the seventh and three runs in the eighth.

Adrian starter Alex Webster went the first four innings and allowed five hits and three earned runs. Webster walked one and struck out three out of the 23 batters he faced. Adam Stone threw three innings in relief and allowed three hits and two earned runs. Stone did not walk a batter and struck out two. Tim Parent (0-1) took the loss throwing 0.2 innings and allowing three earned runs and three hits in the eighth.

Senior Todd Meyers went 3-for-4 at the plate in the leadoff spot with a run scored. He also drew a walk reaching base four times on the day. Steve Vanderheyden went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kris Powell also had two hits in four at-bats for the Bulldogs with an RBI. Adrian struck out 11 times against two Dallas hurlers. Gabe Sandersius struck out eight and allowed five earned runs in seven innings while Philip Carkhuff picked up the win with two relief innings and no earned runs allowed.
