The Adrian College ACHA Division I hockey team started off the new year with a 6-0 shutout victory over Grand Valley State on Friday night at the Arrington Ice Arena.
Adrian controlled the game early as they scored three goals in the first period. Justen Mitchell scored an unassisted goal to get things going for the Bulldogs. Joey Coffin made the contest 2-0 by scoring a power play goal at the 13:16 mark of the period. Spencer Jordan picked up an assist on the goal. The final goal of the first period was scored by Kevin Sunde. Sunde scored the goal on a power play opportunity. Tom Ciaverilla and Spencer Bonomo earned assists.
Sunde came back to score the first goal of the second period to increase the AC lead to 4-0. Chris Dixon and Ciaverilla were credited with assists. Andrew Amodeo scored the second goal of the period five minutes later off an assist from Mike Yakamovich and Jared Semple.
Chad Bonmon scored the lone goal of the third period to give Adrian the 6-0 win. Sunde and Ciaverilla got assists on the goal. Overall Adrian recorded nine assists on the night. They were 2-for-4 on the power play. Newcomer Jason Spada was in goal for Adrian. Spada made 38 saves against the Lakers.
