ADRIAN, Mich. – The seventh ranked ACHA Division 1 team used an offensive third period to run away from second ranked Davenport Thursday night winning by a score of 7-3. The Bulldogs are now 14-1 on the season.
The Panthers traveled to Arrington Ice Arena Thursday night for what would end up being their first GLCHL loss of the season. The Panthers looked to have control early on as they scored two goals less than a minute apart to go up 2-0 early on. Adrian sophomore Kevin Sunde provided the offensive spark the Bulldogs needed as he scored a power play goal midway through the period to bring them within one. Freshman Max Gavin evened up the game as the period was winding down with assists going to freshmen Logan Blackwell and Ryan Bachman.
The Bulldogs breathed a sigh of relief going into the locker room with a 2-2 tie after being down 2-0 early. The Bulldogs came out flying as Blackwell scored less than a minute into the period to make it 3-2. The Panthers would answer back knotting the game at 3-3 but that would prove to be the end of their scoring. Sophomore Spencer Jordan scored what proved to be the game-winner with about three minutes left in the period as he scored off of a rebound from a Bachman shot. The Bulldogs ended the second period up 4-3.
The third would see the Bulldog offense dominate as they scored three unanswered goals in the period to end the game at 7-3. Senior Mike Yakamovich, sophomore Spencer Bonomo, and Bachman all added goals in the period as the Bulldogs routed the Panthers.
Freshman Matt Anderson picked up the win in net for the Bulldogs, stopping 34 of 37 Panther shots.
The Bulldogs go on the road Saturday, November 6 as they face the Panthers again for a 7:30 faceoff at Patterson Ice Arena.
