March 18, 2010

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College baseball team won its home opener on Thursday afternoon with a 9-3 win over Concordia (Mich.) University at Nicolay Field. The Bulldogs led throughout after scoring one run in the bottom of the first on a leadoff home run by junior Nate Sarkissian.

The Bulldogs increased their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning. AC scored a run on a balk and freshman catcher Jamey Sackett drove in the third run of the game with a single through the right side of the infield.

Adrian opened things up with a three-spot in the fifth to lead 6-0. That was enough run support for senior Josh Lancaster who got the start and lasted into the sixth inning. He allowed two hits in 5.2 innings but fought control issues most of the game. He walked four and hit three batters with three strikeouts.

Andrew Geese inherited a couple of base runners in the sixth and allowed a two-run single off the bat of Kevin Connors to cut the lead to 6-2. Geese allowed a run in the eighth to finish with 2.1 innings pitched and one earned run on his stat line. He yielded two hits, a walk and a struck out one as well. Dan Welch pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.

Alex Cowart went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI's. Brian Bilius was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sackett got his first start and made the most of it with two RBI's and two singles. Jason Greer also had an RBI double and a walk.

#24 Adrian (4-2) has a early test tomorrow night as they play host to third-ranked Heidelberg University at 6:00 p.m. in a nine-inning game. The Bulldogs ousted the `Berg in the NCAA Regionals for the past two years.
