Bulldogs Capture GLCHL Title with 3-2 Win at Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A late goal by Alex Norman gave the No. 4 ranked Adrian Bulldogs a 3-2 win over No. 2 Davenport to clinch at least a share of the GLCHL title with a conference record of 16-4. Davenport has two games left against Oakland to end their season but Adrian owns the tiebreaker with two wins, a loss and a shootout loss against the Panthers.

Davenport entered Friday night's contest looking for a weekend sweep of rival Adrian as Davenport opened the scoring just 3:23 into the opening period as Brit Ouellette scored the first of his two goals on the game with assists from Adam Kuhn and Brandon Davis.

That would be the only scoring of the opening period as the shots were just 5-4 in favor of the Panthers. Adrian came out of the gate strong in the second period and scored two goals in a five-minute span to go into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead. Tristan Musser scored on the power play at 9:07 and Norman followed with his first of the game at 4:57 from Ryan Bachman.

Davenport was able to come back from a deficit in the win on Thursday and they would need to do the same on Saturday. Ouellette tied the game with a goal at the 12:58 mark of the third to knot the score at 2-2 with assists from Matt Morang and Tyler Forbes.

The play then became very even until a bounce off a DU defender gave Adrian an opportunity in front of netminder Joe D'Elia in which they converted what would turn out to be the game winner with 8:00 remaining in the game. Norman's second goal of the night was assisted by Logan Blackwell and Jack Goodell. Adrian finished the game with a 24-18 edge in shots on goal.

The GLCHL Playoffs will be hosted by Eastern Michigan University and take place February 18-20 at The Peak in Romulus, MI.

Adrian will be seeded #1 for the GLCHL Playoffs and will receive a bye on Friday, February 18.

Oakland and Davenport will battle it out this weekend for the #2 seed and the other bye available on Friday.  Davenport has a 1-point cushion going into the home-and-home series.  The 3rd place finisher will take on host and #6 seed Eastern Michigan at 7:30 PM on Friday, while Western Michigan and Michigan-Dearborn will battle in the #4 vs #5 matchup.  The home team for that game will be determined after next weekend's games.  Michigan-Dearborn must take at least 4 points from Eastern Michigan to clinch the #4 seed, otherwise the #4 seed will be Western Michigan.  Western Michigan holds the tie-breaker should they both finish with 15 points, based on head-to-head (WMU won 3 of 4 games).

Saturday's schedule will be determined by the seeding of Friday's Quarter-Finals, with the lowest seed taking on Adrian.
