PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The baseball team changed venues to the Snowbird Classic, but that did not slow them down as they won 24-2 against John Jay on Wednesday, Feb. 29. The game went six and a half innings due to a mercy rule with the Bulldogs pounding out 20 hits. The Bulldogs scored five runs in the bottom of the first and then added four runs in the third, eight more in the fourth, one run in the fifth and six runs in the sixth.

John Jay scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings off Adrian starter Eric Schmidt. He was making his debut on the mound for the Bulldogs after a stellar prep career at nearby Blissfield High School. Schmidt picked up the win going five innings and allowing six hits and one earned run. He walked a pair and struck out five before being relieved by Mike Osterman. Osterman threw the final two innings and allow no hits with four strikeouts.

The Bulldogs used 23 players in the game and several of those guys had great performances. Clay Paul went 2-for-3 off the bench with two bases-clearing triples good for six RBI. R.J. Rios started at first base and went 1-for-2 with three RBI. Garrett Green started at second base and went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Mitch Stefanski started as the designated hitter and went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. In all, 19 different guys crossed home plate for Adrian.

Adrian continues its spring trip tomorrow (Mar. 1) with a 1:00 PM first pitch scheduled against Capital (Ohio) University. Brent Greenwood is scheduled to make his first start of the season.
