ADRIAN, Mich. - Your ACHA DI Bulldog Hockey team started off their regular season with conference foe Eastern Michigan University on Friday, Sept. 21. The Bulldogs were coming off a huge 14-3 win against the Metro Jets to end their preseason and propel them into the regular season.
Early in the first period, the Bulldogs showed relentless pressure on the EMU net and they would draw a boarding call just three minutes in putting the Bulldogs on the power play. The Bulldogs continued to pressure the net, but the EMU goalie was equal to the task each time as they were unable to hit the net after having great chances. The Bulldogs started to pick up the physical play and EMU would be unable to respond in a legal fashion costing them a penalty and this time the Bulldogs would cash in on it as senior
Andrew Amodeo took a shot from the point after receiving a pass from freshman
Senate Patton that beat the EMU goalie for the early 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs penalty kill would come on and kill a penalty then it was right back to relentless pressure on the EMU side of the ice. The Bulldogs would get tagged with another penalty bringing back onto the ice the penalty kill unit. They would do their job as EMU never was able to set up any type of offense. The Bulldogs would get their second goal of game as senior

The Bulldogs came out firing and almost added a third goal in the first minute of the second period. The hitting intensified and picked up right where it left off in the first period putting the Bulldogs on the penalty kill for the fourth time. The Bulldogs would draw their fifth penalty of the night giving EMU a 5-on-3 opportunity. Junior
Tristan Musser sacked the body twice to keep EMU shots from getting to Anderson, but it wouldn't be enough as EMU was able to finally poke a loose puck home for a power play goal cutting the Bulldogs lead down to just one.
The Bulldogs and EMU would both draw penalties and the two teams would skate 4-on-4 for two minutes, but neither team was able to take advantage of a lot of open ice. Senior

Getting the assists were sophomore Alex Dobrzeniencki and Patton who now had his name on the scoresheet for the second time tonight. The Bulldogs had an opportunity to add one more as Spear received a pass from sophomore
Marc Madarasz and skated into the zone but Madarasz was unable to put the puck on net. It wouldn't matter as freshman
Darren Tarasoff took a shot from the point that deflected off an EMU player and found the back of net for his first career goal as a Bulldog, and giving them the 4-1 advantage late in the period. The Bulldogs would draw a power play but were unable to cash in, but they would come back on the power play to start the third period.
The Bulldogs would start the third period with a short power play, but they were unable to do anything with it. Later in the period, Amodeo sent up a pass to Bonomo who would add his second goal of the game off a slap shot that EMU's goalie got a piece of with his pads, but the shot had enough on it to just trickle into the back of the net for the goal. Around the midway point of the third period, Bonomo would complete the hat trick with his third goal of the game as Dobrzeniecki sent a pass to a cutting Bonomo who deflected the puck past the goalie giving the Bulldogs a 6-1 lead midway through the period.
The Bulldogs would get tagged for another penalty and EMU would make them pay as an Eagle skated in and sniped a shot that beat Anderson glove side cutting the Bulldogs lead to 6-2. The Bulldogs penalty kill would find themselves back on the ice for the sixth time and they were able to kill it off once again holding EMU to just two shots. The Bulldogs would finish off the night with 31 shots and Anderson would end the night with 20 saves on 22 shots. The score at the end would be 6-2 as the Bulldogs closed it out.
Talking with
Spencer Bonomo he agreed it was a lackluster start with a 1-3 preseason record but, that they were ironing things out and that this week's practice was a great one leading up to tonight and that everyone on the roster has the potential to play and that its a battle every week to make the lineup. After scoring three goals he couldn't imagine any better way start to his senior season to quote him it was "bitter sweet" because it is his last opening night at Arrington Ice Arena playing for the Bulldogs. When asked about the additions of the freshman he feels that it wasn't much of a transition for them and that they are fitting in well with the vets and its meshing real well together.
