GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The undefeated Adrian College ACHA Division I men's hockey team used a big four-goal second period to earn a conference win over the Davenport Panthers on Friday night at Patterson Ice Center.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first period, but the Bulldogs came through with four unanswered second period goals to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Brad Kobryn (Brighton, Ont.) started the scoring with his 19th goal of the season, with assists from Chris Derochie (Rossland, B.C.) and Adam Bristol (Carmel, Ind.) at the 6:46 mark.
Twenty-one seconds later, Matt Zaremba (Gaylord, Mich.) made it 2-0 with an assist from Zach McKay (Brighton, Mich.).
McKay was not done, however, as he scored a goal of his own to make it 3-0. Matt O'Neil (Mississauga, Ont.) picked up the Bulldogs final goal of the period with 3:37 left, as Zaremba picked up his second assist of the night.
Davenport was able to avoid the shutout, as the Panthers' Travis White scored his second of the season for the only goal of the third period.
The win kicks off a busy weekend for the third-ranked Bulldogs, who will face Mercyhurst University in a two-game series starting on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Arrington Ice Arena and again on Sunday at 2 p.m.
