ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College ACHA Division I men's hockey team wasted little time on Sunday as they scored six unanswered first period goals on their way to an 8-2 win over Mercyhurst University at Arrington Ice Arena to sweep the two-game series from the Lakers.
The Bulldogs got a pair of goals from Alex Dobrzeniecki (Fishers, Ind.) and six other goals from six different players to overwhelm the Lakers.
Scoring for Adrian in the first were Andre Rakas (Holt, Mich.), Bobby Bodette (Garden, Mich.), Justin Fisher (Flushing, Mich.), Nick Balavich (Lake Orion, Mich.), Brad Kobryn (Brighton, Ont.) and Matt Zaremba (Gaylord, Mich.). Rakas's first goal was a power-play goal and the second goal by Bodette was a short-handed marker for the Bulldogs.
The Lakers fought back in the second period with single goals from Joseph Tadiello and Patrick Schafer to cut the lead to 6-2, but Dobrzeniecki scored in the final minute of both the second and third periods to make the final score, 8-2.
Winning goaltender Austyn Roudebush (Toledo, Ohio) made 29 saves for Adrian, while Mercyhurst split the goaltending duties between Adam Goss and Nick George, with Goss making 13 saves and George making 27 stops in the contest.
The third-ranked Bulldogs will be home again on Thursday when they take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn, with opening face-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
