ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College ACHA Division I men's hockey team saw a two-goal lead dissipate in the third period on Tuesday night, but the Bulldogs leading scorer Brad Kobryn (Brighton, Ont.) came through in the shootout to give Adrian a 3-2 shootout win over Davenport.
Kobryn staked the Bulldogs to a first period lead by scoring his 26th goal of the season at the 15:03 mark with an assist from Justin Fisher (Flushing, Mich.). Adrian was able to extend the lead in the second period when Eric Alden (Vanderhoff, B.C.) scored a power play goal at 10:23 to make the score 2-0 Bulldogs after two periods.
Adrian appeared to have the game in hand during the third period, but Davenport was able to pull within one with a power play goal at 9:18 by Luke McCarthy. Adrian was still in the lead until just 50 seconds remaining in the contest, when Everett Thompson slammed the puck past Adrian goaltender Austyn Roudebush (Toledo, Ohio) to tie the score and send the game into overtime.
The five-minute overtime period proved fruitless, however, as the teams lined up for a best-of-three skater shootout. But it was only Kobryn who would score in the shootout, as he swooped in and connected in the number two spot in the lineup to win the game.
Roudebush stood tall for Adrian, especially in the shootout, turning back all three Davenport shots and 27 shots in regulation. Adrian will now be idle through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and will return to action next Thursday, December 4, when they host Rochester College.
