Men's ACHA Division 1 Ice Hockey

Bulldogs Stop Rochester College 5-1

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College ACHA Division I men's hockey team won their final game of 2014 at Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday night, downing the Rochester Warriors 5-1 before an appreciative crowd at Arrington. The win pushes the Bulldogs record to 19-1-1 on the season, with just one game to play, a road tilt at Davenport on Sunday evening, to conclude the 2014 portion of their hockey schedule. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 8-11.

Adrian jumped on top in the first period on a power-play goal by Eric Alden (Vanderhoof, B.C.), his fifth of the season and an even strength goal by Matt O'Neil (Mississauga, Ont.) with just 57 seconds remaining to make the score 2-0 at the break.

The Bulldogs put the game away in the second period, outscoring the Warriors 3-1 in the middle 20 minutes. Chris Derochie (Rossland, B.C.) scored his 12th of the season just 2:33 into the period, but Rochester's Josh Foster answered for the Warriors only goal just 19 seconds later, tucking one just inside the post behind Adrian goalie Matt Schnoes (Plymouth, Mich.) to make it 3-1.

The comeback would be short lived, however, as Adrian would get two more goals in the period to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Alex Dobrzeniecki (Fishers, Ind.) scored Adrian's second power-play goal of the night with an assist from Alden and then Brad Kobryn (Brighton, Ont.) finished the scoring with his 29th goal of the season to make it 5-1, as Matt Zaremba (Gaylord, Mich.) picked up his second assist on the evening.

Although there was no scoring in period number three, the Bulldogs dominated play, outshooting the Warriors 23-7. Rochester netminder Zach Olvin made 45 saves on the evening, while Schnoes had a fine game in the net for the Bulldogs stopping 16 shots.

After the Bulldogs complete the game at Davenport, they will not return to the ice until January 9-10 when they travel to North Dakota to take on Minot State before returning home to take on Western Michigan University on January 16 at Arrington Ice Arena.
