Women's ACHA Division 1 Ice Hockey

Rushing, Dungey Lead ACHA D-I Women Skaters to 1-0 Upset of Miami-Ohio

ADRIAN, Mich.—Adrian College junior forward Jesse Rushing scored on the power-play with assists from freshman forward Sam Fortune and senior defender Valerie Twigg with 3:18 left in the first period to give Adrian all the offense it would need, as they shut out the number one-ranked Miami Red Hawks, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Arrington ice Arena. The host Bulldogs are No. 3 in the ACHA Women's Division I poll.

Adrian's sophomore goaltender Allison Dungey made 32 saves on the afternoon to keep Miami off the scoreboard and earn Adrian the win. The Bulldogs got off just 18 shots against the stingy Miami defense, but Rushing's goal proved to be the difference between these two top-five nationally ranked teams.

The Adrian defense stood tall throughout the contest, holding Miami to 0-4 on the power-play, including killing off two penalties in the game's final period.

The win pushes the Bulldogs record to 4-2, while Miami is now 3-1 on the season. Adrian will return to the ice at Arrington Ice Arena next Saturday when they host Penn State University in the first of a two-game series starting at 7:30 p.m.
