Women's ACHA Division 1 Ice Hockey

Big Third Period Pushes Bulldogs Past Davenport 3-1

The No. 3 ranked Adrian College ACHA Division I Women's squad scored three times in the third period on Thursday night to down the No. 12 ranked Davenport Panthers 3-1 at Arrington Ice Arena.

Neither team was able to dent the scoreboard through the first 40 minutes, but the Bulldogs went to work in the third scoring the first two goals, as freshman forward Kirstin Labelle put Adrian on top 1-0 with an even strength goal with 11:06 left.  Assists on the goal went to forwards sophomore Sabrena Camp and freshman Sam Fortune.  Freshman forward Kallie Hardy followed with her fifth goal of the season, with an assist from sophomore defender Marisa Shepard to make the score 2-0.

Davenport later scored their only goal on a power-play chance to pull within 2-1, but the Bulldogs answered with a power play goal of their own by junior forward Alicia Tait to make the final 3-1.

The Bulldogs dominated the action outshooting the Panther 48-13, as Adrian sophomore goalie Alison Dungey picked up her sixth win of the year with 12 saves. Panther net minder Karly Ferguson was kept much busier in the Davenport net making 45 stops.

The win pushes the Bulldogs record to 7-2-0 on the season while Davenport falls to 3-5-0. The two teams will battle Friday night in Grand Rapids starting at 8:00.
