ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College ACHA Division I hockey team held visiting Niagara to just 11 shots on goal on Sunday, as AC swept the two-game series with the Purple Eagles with a 3-0 win at Arrington Ice Arena. The main beneficiary of the Bulldogs stellar defense was goaltender Matt Schnoes (Plymouth, MI), who earned his first win and shutout the season with 11 saves.
The Bulldogs got all the offense they needed in the first period, as Brad Kobryn (Burlington, ON) scored the game winner for the second consecutive night, just 4:01 into the game, with an assist from Marc Peters (Fort Wayne, IN). Trevor Benaglio (Battle Creek, MI) got loose for an unassisted goal just before heading to the locker room at the end of the first, which made the score 2-0.
Neither team could get on the board in the second 20 minutes, with the Purple Eagles holding off the Bulldogs on a five on three situation midway through the period.
Adrian got their final goal in period number three as Chris Derochie (Rossland, BC) a turned on the light with assist from Justin Fisher (Flushing, MI) and Andre Rakas (Holt, MI).
The win pushes the Bulldogs record to 2-0 while Niagara University falls to 3-2. The Bulldogs next action will occur on Friday, October 9, when they begin a two-game series against archrival Oakland University at Arrington Ice Arena starting at 7 p.m. Adrian will travel to The Onyx in Rochester for game two of that series on Saturday starting at 8:30 p.m.
