ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College, which is ranked eighth in the latest American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I men's hockey national poll, scored three times in the final period on Thursday night to break a 1-1 deadlock and pick up their fifth win of the season with a 4-1 win over No. 13 University of Michigan at Dearborn in the first of a two game series.
Both teams tallied early power-play goals, as Brad Kobyrn scored his fifth of the season with the extra attacker in the first period, while UM-Dearborn (2-3 overall) knotted the score in the second period with a power play goal from Kevin Bechard.
In the third period the Bulldogs seized momentum as Sam Johnston cleared the puck to Marcus Rose who tipped it out of the Bulldog zone to Rainer Glimpel, who found himself on a breakaway from center ice which he buried in the Wolverine net to give Adrian the lead for good at 2-1, just 1 minute and 28 seconds into the period.
The Bulldogs were not done, however, as moments later Marcel Kottek found the puck loose at the feet of Wolverine goaltender Nate Ferris and slapped it in for his third goal of the season. Rose added extra breathing room for Adrian, scoring the game's final goal with just 3:17 remaining with assists from Glimpel and Kottek to make the final 4-1.
Matt Schnoes was extremely sharp in the Bulldog cage stopping 31 shots to pick up the win in goal for the Bulldogs, as UM-Dearborn outshot the Bulldogs 32-23.
The Bulldogs are now 5-0 on the season and will skate again on Friday night against the Wolverines at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse starting at 7:30.
