Men's ACHA Division 1 Ice Hockey

Adrian Downs Previously Unbeaten Davenport in ACHA Men's Hockey Top-10 Showdown, 5-1

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I men's hockey team avenged its only loss of the season on Thursday night with a 4-1 win over previously unbeaten Davenport in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd at Arrington Ice Arena.

Adrian's top two goal producer's for the season came up big in the  opening period, as Marcus Rose scored  his 12th goal of the season and Brad Kobryn added his 14th of the year, both on goal mouth scrambles, to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage after one period.

That would be all the Bulldogs would need as Adrian goaltender Michael Barrett stood tall between the Adrian pipes, allowing just one goal and stopping 29 shots in picking up his sixth win of the year against no defeats.

After Davenport's Chris Eckler scored just ninety-seven seconds into the second period to cut the Bulldog lead to 2-1, freshman Domenic Moore and Mark Fratarcangeli responded with unassisted goals to push the margin to 4-1. Fratarcangeli's marker was a particular backbreaker for Davenport, as he scored on a beautiful breakaway goal just after a bone crushing center ice hit by Ted Anstett.

The third period remained scoreless until the final five seconds when Justin Polischuk scored into an empty net to make the final 5-1.

The Bulldogs outshot the Panthers on the night 31-30 in a penalty marred contest in which Davenport received 12 penalties for 43 minutes and the Bulldogs were whistled for 10 penalties for 20 minutes.

With the win the Bulldogs even the series with the Panthers for the season at 1-1 and now maintain an 11-1 record for the year, while Davenport suffers defeat for the first time in 2016-17 and now has a record of 10-1. The two squads will faceoff one more time this season when the Bulldogs entertain the Panthers again on Nov. 22 here at Arrington Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs have two more games this weekend, with a home-and home-series with Rochester beginning on Friday night in Rochester and concluding Saturday night at Arrington. Friday's opening faceoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's game begins at 7 p.m.
