ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I men's hockey team played its final home game for the 2016 portion of the schedule on Thursday night, routing the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies, 12-0, at Arrington Ice Arena.
The 12 goals and margin of victory are both season bests.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked fifth in the latest ACHA national poll, took advantage of a pair of Oakland major penalties in the contest on their way to scoring six power play goals to easily defeat the Grizzlies.
Adrian's Chris Derochie and Marcus Rose each had hat tricks, while Brad Kobryn added a pair of third period goals to lead the Bulldogs in scoring.
Adrian led just 2-0 after the first twenty minutes on even strength markers by Derochie and Sam Johnston.
The Bulldogs then increased their lead to a sizeable advantage, scoring seven times in the second period. Rose and C.J. Nicholson each scored to lead off the period. After a skirmish in front of the Oakland goal, the Grizzlies Joe Pizzimenti and the Bulldogs Sam Johnston were relegated to the penalty box with Pizzimenti receiving a five-minute major for face-masking and Johnston a two- minute minor for roughing.
The Bulldogs' Nick Goettle took advantage of the 4-on-4 situation to score the Bulldogs fifth goal, and Rose would score two more times on the power play before Pizzimenti's penalty expired.
Later in the period, Oakland's Matteo Mazur would be whistled for another five-minute major, this time for cross-checking, which would lead to three more Bulldog goals, two to end the second period by Justin Fisher and Derochie and the third spilling over into the third period by Kobryn.
Kobryn scored the final power play goal with 9:04 to play in the contest, bringing to an end the string of six consecutive power play markers. Adrian's final goal was scored by Derochie, completing his hat trick.
Adrian assist leader for the night was Marcel Kottek, who garnered four helpers and J. P. Grineau who added three assists.
Adrian goaltender Matt Schnoes earned the shutout--the team's fourth this season--in goal for the Bulldogs, making just 11 saves.
The win pushes the Bulldogs' record to 17-1 while Oakland falls to 4-11-0-1. The two teams will meet again Friday night in Oakland with the opening faceoff slated for 8:30.
