DOVER, Ohio--The Adrian College men's golf squad had a successful 2016-17 season debut this weekend by shooting a 300+305=605 for fifth place at the 10-team Gatorade Collegiate Invitational at Zoar Village Golf Course, which wrapped up on Sunday.
Sophomore Andrew Skibski had a 73+75=148 tied for ninth overall on the par 72, 6730-yard layout to pace the Adrian score. He was followed by freshman Logan Heffner (77+74=151, T-17th), sophomore Mo Harb (75+77= 152, T-25th) and junior Zak Hart (75+79=154, T-32nd). Senior Joseph Richards added a 78+81=159 (T-48th).
Sophomore Johnathan Roscoe competed as an individual, recording an 82+78=160 for tied for 51st out of 68 golfers. He had the biggest improvement of four strokes from the first 18 holes to the second, while Heffner jumped 16 spots from 33rd after Saturday's first round.
Tournament host the College of Wooster had a 312+312=614 for ninth place. Ohio Wesleyan University won the team title with a 282+297=579, while Collin Haag of runner-up Allegheny College (299+296=595) was the medalist with a 71+65=136 (par -8). He edged by one stroke OWU's Adam Armstrong who carded a 67+70=137.
Adrian returns to action next Saturday for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree#1 in Angola, Ind. Trine University is hosting the tournament on the Zollner Golf Course, beginning with a 1 p.m. start time.
