Women's ACHA Division 1 Ice Hockey

@ACWomensACHA Completes Weekend Series Sweep Over UMass to Open the Season

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College ACHA Division 1 women's hockey squad scored four times in the second period on Sunday afternoon and cruised to a 5-1 win over visiting UMass-Amherst to sweep the two-game series in Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs also won their season opener over the Minutewomen on Saturday evening, 4-1.

For the second straight game, UMass--a perennial power in ACHA Division 1 entered play this weekend with a 3-0 record--got on the board first, scoring in the final minute of the first period on a goal by Brittani Lanzilli.

The Bulldogs took complete control of the contest after the intermission, however, as Kristin LaBelle tied the game just after the four minute mark of the period. The game remained deadlocked until the 12:24 mark when Kaillie Hardy put Adrian in the lead with the first of three Bulldog goals in a less than three minute span, as Kelly Rae Zdan and Olivia Ziemba each scored to push the Adrian advantage to 4-1.

Britt Levasseur closed the scoring with the only goal of the third period to give Adrian five goals from five different players on the afternoon. Adrian outshot UMass 51-17 as Allison Dungey made 16 saves to earn the win.

In the season-opening three-goal victory, the Bulldogs fell behind early as Kelly Dolan got UMass on the board just 3:46 into the first period. Adrian tied the score before the end of the period, however, on a goal by Jessie Rushing with assists from Ziemba and Brooklyn Moore.

The second period's only goal came off the stick of first year player Olivia Pollari, scoring her first goal of her Bulldog career, which would prove to be the game winner and give Adrian a 2-1 lead after forty minutes.

Adrian would add a pair of insurance markers in the third period, on goals by Nicole Paradis and Britt Levasseur to make the final score 4-1.

Dungey earned the win for the Bulldogs in net, making 15 saves on the evening.  Amber Greene took the loss for UMass despite making 39 saves, as the Bulldogs outshot UMass 43-16.

The Bulldogs next action will be on Friday, October 20 when they travel to Grand Valley State to take on the Lakers.
