ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's wrestling team hosted Defiance College on Tueaday night. The Bulldogs set a program record with a 56-0 win over the Yellow Jackets. The 56-point performance marks a program record breaking the previous record of 53 points when Adrian won 53-0 over Penn State Behrend in 2019.
Adrian started the day with a 12-0 lead.
Colton Weimer and
Tyler Davis recorded wins by forfeits at 125 and 133.
Zachary Platte won by fall in 1:51 to put Adrian up 18-0 over Defiance.
Landyn VanWyk went on to win by forfeit at 149 to lead 24-0.
At 157,
Junior Martin didn't take long to add to the Adrian lead. Martin pinned his opponent in 20 seconds to lead 30-0.
Zach Altman continued the trend pinning his opponent in the second round to lead 36-0.
Derrick Top followed suit with a pin at 174 in 1:44 to extend the lead.
At 184,
Michael Jacobs went into the second round and recorded multiple near falls to win 17-0 and record a tech fall.
Dylan Wellbaum picked up a pin at 197 to lead 53-0 after a pin in 1:10. Lastly,
Donald Moses wrestled went all three rounds against Jonah Schlegel who was listed as a honorable mention for the top-10 rankings at 285 in the latest poll. With the bout tied 1-1 in the third round, Moses made a move with under five seconds and recorded the late takedown to win by decision 5-3.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, December 4 at the Ohio Northern Invitational in Ada, Ohio. Wrestling will begin at 9:00 AM.
