KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Over the weekend the Adrian College club baseball team traveled to Kalamazoo to face the Broncos of Western Michigan University, where the Bulldogs took one of the three games over the weekend.
Â
The Bulldogs came out strong in the first game as
Sean Balfour recorded a single along with
Joe Postma to put Balfour into scoring position.
Jack Florig then hit a double to score the first run of the day for Adrian College. Adrian would then go on to score four more runs in the 3rd inning to prevail. The Broncos were not going away without a fight as they recorded four runs in the 4th and 5th innings to be down only 5-4. Adrian recorded one final run in the 6th inning to stay ahead, holding Western Michigan scoreless the rest of the contest and eventually winning 6-4 in seven innings.
Griffin Reynard had a phenomenal game on the mound and at the plate, striking out several batters he faced and recording two hits.
Â
Continuing on, Adrian fell short in the last two matchups, as Western Michigan started finding a groove and cracking the bats. The Broncos defense improved the 2nd game, holding Adrian scoreless until the 7th inning where Balfour scored Trombley to give the Bulldogs some life. Unfortunately, Western Michigan's defense was too much and Adrian could not overcome it and dropped the 2nd game by a score 7-4. This would carry on into the 3rd game where Western Michigan could not be contained after the 3rd inning. Adrian struck first and recorded a run early to start the game as Balfour scored
Brock Hudik after he recorded a single earlier to go up 1-0. When everything seemed to be going in the Bulldogs favor the 3rd inning came around and the Bulldogs were stunned with five runs recorded by Western and several more in the later innings. Adrian found some offense late in the game but it could not overcome the 14 runs recorded in the 3rd game by the Broncos.
Colton Hicks and
Jack Florig were on the mound for Adrian's 2nd and 3rd games, where both were awarded the loss and they fell to 0-1 on the season.
Â
The Bulldogs fall to 6-5 on the season and are back in action this upcoming Wednesday to take on the Eagles of Eastern Michigan University, where first pitch is set to be thrown at 7:00 p.m.
