Astalos Records 200th Career Win Over Weekend

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team swept the Purdue University Northwest Pride over the weekend, winning 10-1 on Thursday night and 4-3 the following night. Friday's hard-fought road victory was head coach Gary Astalos' 200th career coaching win at the realm of the MD1 Bulldogs.

Thursday night at the Arrington Ice Arena, the Bulldogs last home game of the fall semester, was all Bulldogs right off the hop. The home team saw goals from forwards Connor Smith, Tyler Fyfe, Matthew Di Cesare and Samuel Spaedt, putting them up 4-0 after one period of play. Second period action saw defensemen Sheldon Nolan and Matt Cruz find the back of the net, while Connor Smith added two more to complete the hat-trick with one period still left to play. With the Bulldogs up 8-0 and outshooting PNW 44-15 after two, Connor Smith opened up the third period by potting his fourth goal of the night, just fifteen seconds into the frame. Freshman forward Justin Jamer would add a shorthanded tally late in the game to close it out. Forwards Sebastian Smith and Tyler Fyfe finished with three points each, while Connor Smith and Sam Spaedt finished with five points each respectively. Goaltender Noah Decottignies made 21 saves in the triumph.

The Bulldogs then traveled to Hammond, Indiana on Friday night to close out the series with Purdue, where the two teams fought back and forth, but it was Adrian's power play that dominated in the contest. Forwards Connor Smith, Justin Jamer, Matteo DiGiulio and Sam Spaedt all converted on the power play for the Bulldogs. Goaltender Noah Decottignies made 22 saves, earning his 13th win of the campaign.

The No. 3 ranked MD1 Bulldogs closed out their fall semester with an 18-2-1 record, scoring 155 goals and only allowing 31. The team will now begin their winter break and be back in action on Thursday, January 12th & Saturday, January 14th as they face off against the Western Michigan University Stallions in a GLCHL conference home and home series.
