Bulldog Softball Drops Home Closer to Trine

ADRIAN, Mich. - At the Adrian College Softball Field, the Bulldogs welcomed cross-state rival Trine University for their home finale. After a delayed start due to field conditions, the Thunder rattled off consecutive victories with back-to-back 7-0 results.

Game One: Adrian 0, Trine 7

In game one, the Thunder effectively scattered all of their runs over the game's seven innings, including three within the first two frames to build an early advantage.

The Bulldog bats faced a tough dealer from the circle in Trine starter Adrienne Rosey. The visitor's ace was lockdown through and through, and even fired four combined innings worth of perfect softball.

Her teammates did the rest from the plate and on the basepaths, as despite four hitless innings of work from Adrian reliever Macee Schang, Trine found ways to take advantage of three Bulldog errors and push across four additional runs to seal the deal.

Maggie Leveille, Lauren McCulligh and Brynn McKay each chipped in one hit for the black and gold, while Ellie Trine and Taylor Murdock contributed two hits apiece for the Thunder.

Game Two: Adrian 0, Trine 7

The second edition of Saturday's doubleheader had a similar story as its predecessor, as the 'Dogs, again, could not get into a rhythm offensively, and were limited to just three hits.

Trine, on the other hand, only improved on their efforts from the previous game, running their hit total up to 12 while producing an identical seven runs.

Adrian's best chance of ending their woes at the plate came in the top leg of the sixth inning, in which Haley DeChalk reached first base on walk, and was subsequently moved up to the second base off of a sacrifice bunt by McKay. The Thunder defense, however, made sure to limit the damage to just that, ending the threat on the next at-bat.

Katie Connolly, Keira Stampfly and McCulligh tacked on the hits for the locals in the second game.

In the circle, Abbi Patton (2-5) fired a complete-game effort, her second of the season.

As mentioned previously, Saturday was Adrian's final home series of the 2022 season. The 'Dogs now turn their attention to the penultimate doubleheader of the regular season, which is slated for Thursday afternoon at Calvin University.
