ADRIAN,Mich. -- The Adrian College baseball team team hosted Trine University on Tuesday in the new midweek series in the MIAA season. The Bulldogs and the Thunder are travel partners and will play one nine inning game during the week for three straight weeks to equal the season series. Tuesday was game one where the Bulldogs went on to defeat Trine 9-5 at Nicolay Field.
Trine took an early 4-0 lead with the help of a 3-run homer in the top of the second off starter
Andrew Giorno. Trine scrapped another across in the second to lead 4-0. Adrian responded with a run in the third to cut into the lead and make the score 4-1 on a wild pitch.
David Kedrow drove in a pair of runs in the fifth inning to make it 4-3 followed by a pinch hit single from
Kevin Cardentey to tie the ball game.
Trine regained the lead in the seventh scoring on an RBI groundout, but Adrian responded in the bottom half of the inning.
Gus Weaks singles in a pair of runs to lead 6-5 followed by a single from
Ty Peck to drive in another. The Bulldogs added some insurance in the eighth as
Ryan Davis reached on a fielders choice which score
Thomas Miller to lead 8-5. On a steal with runners on the corners, the ball was thrown into center field to bring home another run to make it 9-5.
Giorno got the start for Adrian throwing 6.1 innings allowing four earned runs on eight his with a pair of strikeouts.
Luc St. Antoine got the win in relief and
Jacob Hanoian picked up his third save of the season.
Kedrow and Weaks led the team on offense with a pair of RBIs for each of them while also piecing together a pair of hits each.
The Bulldogs return to action at Nicolay Field on Friday as they host Hope College in game one of the weekend series at 4:00 PM.
