MD1 Hockey Sweeps Stony Brook in OT Thriller

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team took care of business this weekend as they swept the Stony Brook University Seawolves in a home series by scores of 15-0 and 4-3.

Saturday night's series opening contest saw the Bulldogs come out hot, scoring five goals in the first period, chasing Stony Brook's goaltender from the cage. The Bulldogs would then pile on another five goals in the second and third periods to secure the 15-0 triumph. Forward Connor Smith was able to net four goals and two assists in the contest, along with Tyler Fyfe who finished the night with a hat-trick and a couple helpers. Sebastian Smith and Ethan Klemen both tallied twice, while Brenden Stanko added a goal and three assists in the effort. Defenseman Dakota Bohn provided three assists, while Sam Spaedt, Sheldon Nolan and Matthew DiCesare each tallied once. Goaltender Noah Decottignies made 14 saves for his second shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs and Seawolves battled again on Sunday afternoon which saw the Bulldogs secure an overtime victory after trailing late in the game. Cameron Armstrong opened the scoring for Adrian in the first period, his seventh of the season. Brodie Thornton and Tyler Fyfe both scored on the powerplay in the final frame to send it to overtime, before the Bulldog penalty kill went to work and muscled their way through a 5-on-3 man advantage, which later led to Brodie Thornton potting the winner with just over a minute left in the extra period. Decottignies earned the win in goal, stopping 24 of 27 shots, for his 16th victory of the season. The Bulldogs had outshot the Seawolves 117-41 in the sweep.

The No.2 MD1 Bulldogs, who now sit at 22-2-1, will clash with Calvin University this weekend in a GLCHL conference home and home series. The Bulldogs and Knights will face off on Thursday night at the Arrington Ice Arena for a 7:30 PM puck drop, and then travel to Grand Rapids on Saturday for another 7:30 PM tilt.
