MINOT, N.D. -- The No. 2 Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team opened up their spring semester with a trip to North Dakota, where they battled with Minot State University and the University of Jamestown in a three-game weekend. The Bulldogs survived the weekend, coming out with a split decision to the Minot State Beavers and a shutout win over the Jamestown Jimmies.
Friday night's series opening game saw the Bulldogs and Beavers keep it close by sharing a 1-1 score in the final minutes, before the Beavers tallied with just seven seconds left in the contest to secure a 2-1 victory. Forward
Hailey Wiltshire provided the lone goal for Adrian, while goaltender
Judith Schneider made 20 saves in the effort.
Fortunately for the Bulldogs, they had a chance to redeem themselves on Saturday night, where they did just that. After outshooting Minot 38-26 in the game, Adrian secured a 3-2 overtime win on the winning goal by forward
Rhea Peterson, her tenth of the season. Wiltshire, who opened the scoring for the Bulldogs in the first period, added an assist on the winning goal by Peterson, while forward
Neleh Wood also found the back of the net in the second period for her seventh tally of the season. Defenseman
Allison Shaw provided three assists and goaltender
Judith Schneider made 24 saves to earn the triumph.
The Bulldogs would then close out their weekend with a 3-0 victory at Jamestown University. Defenseman
Gianna Miranda opened the scoring in the first period with her seventh of the season, followed by forwards
Macy Piche (8th) and
Ashlynn Stitt (14th) both adding goals on the powerplay in the third period. Goaltender
Reid Bahr made 15 saves for her third win and second shutout of the season.
The WD1 Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday January 19th at the Arrington Ice Arena when they take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 PM.
