ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 3 hockey team took on Northwood University in a three-game series over the last week, dropping the first two games on the road, but bouncing back to collect their first win of the season at home on Sunday.
The Bulldogs and Timberwolves met on Friday, November 3rd in Midland, Michigan for game one of the series but it was the Timberwolves who were victorious in overtime, 4-3. The Bulldogs received goals from
Brett Whitten,
Antonio Briggs-Blake, and
Travis Symons to force sudden-death hockey, but eventually fell short. Goaltender
Luc Miklos made 35 saves in the game for Adrian.
The two teams would meet again a week later in Midland on Saturday, November 11 for game two of the series. The Timberwolves would eventually solve the Bulldogs again, winning by a score of 6-3. Adrian's
Evan Bliss would score twice, once while short-handed, and Symons would also add one but it was not enough for the Bulldogs to collect the win. Goaltender
Rex Goldberg stopped 34 shots in the game for Adrian.
Sunday's series finale would turn out to be the day for the Bulldogs as they controlled most of the game and secured their first win of the season, defeating Northwood, 3-1 at home. Bliss opened the scoring for Adrian on a goal assisted by Symons and
James Schmidt in the first period. The Bulldogs would score another within the first few minutes of the second period, thanks to Whitten, but it was Northwood who answered back while short-handed to make it 2-1. Whitten would then add another later in the period to put the home team up 3-1 after two frames. After a scoreless third period, the Bulldogs would hold on to secure the much-needed triumph. Goaltender
Brandon Hiuser was exceptional in goal, stopping 35 shots and earning the win for Adrian.
The MD3 Bulldogs will face off against Central Michigan University on November 18-19 in a home and home series. The two teams will meet in Mount Pleasant on Saturday at 7:00 PM and then on Sunday at the Arrington Ice Arena at 7:00 PM.
