ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 2 hockey team handled their business over the weekend as they swept Aurora University in a home and home series, defeating the Spartans 5-3 and 8-3.
The Bulldogs are coming off a week that saw them move up four spots from No. 10 to No. 6 in the ACHA MD2 Central Region rankings. The team was looking to feed off of the news, and they did exactly that. On Friday afternoon in Chicago, the Bulldogs defeated the Spartans thanks to multiple goals from
Steven Cope, and one each from
Jack Kraemer,
Sam Carper, and
Dominic Melone. The Spartans would keep it tight but it was not enough as goaltender
Alexander Herman made 33 saves for the Bulldogs to secure the victory. Adrian's
Shaun Potts added three assists in the offensive effort.
Adrian and Aurora met at the Arrington Ice Arena on Saturday night to close the series, but it was the home team who prevailed in a commanding 8-3 fashion. Two goals from
Willie McGuire, and singles from
Brady DesMadryl,
Tyler Hissong,
Matthew Krueger,
Ryan Hutcheson, Melone, and Carper. Another strong offensive display and a stellar goaltending performance from Herman, who stopped 30 of 33 shots, was more than enough for Adrian to secure the sweep over their opponents from Illinois.
The MD2 Bulldogs will be out of action until December 1-2 when they face off against Davenport University in a home and home series. The Bulldogs and Panthers will meet on Friday, December 1 in Grand Rapids at 8:30 PM, and then at the Arrington Ice Arena on Saturday, December 2 for a quick turn-around game at 11:00 AM.
