WD1 Hockey Sweeps Weekend, Secures Regular Season Conference Championship

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team won both contests over the weekend, taking down conference opponents No. 14 University of Michigan-Dearborn on the road Thursday night, and then shutting out No. 7 McKendree University at home on Saturday afternoon. With the victory over UM-Dearborn, the WD1 Bulldogs captured the 6th CCWHA Regular Season Conference Championship in program history, going 14-0-0 in conference play this season, with a stellar 98 goals for and 17 goals against.

The Bulldogs went into their matchup with UM-Dearborn looking to bounce back from their two losses the weekend before, and they did just that by handling the Wolverines, by a 4-2 score. Adrian received goals from sophomores Katie McNair, Rhea Peterson, and Allison Shaw, as well as freshman Tyla Turnbull. Goaltender Judith Schneider made 22 saves on 24 shots to earn the 11th victory of her freshman campaign, and the Bulldogs their 6th consecutive Regular Season Championship.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs welcomed McKendree University to the Arrington Ice Arena, where Adrian hosted their Senior Day Ceremony to honor the Class of 2023. Goaltender Reid Bahr, defenseman Kirsten Horney, and forwards Gabby Jex and Bria Fewchuk were all recognized before puck drop for their efforts, contributions, and accomplishments with the team over the last four years. It was a fun-filled day as the Bulldogs shutout the Bearcats of McKendree, 3-0, on two goals from Shaw and another from freshman forward, Taylor Robinson. Bahr earned the win and shutout in goal, stopping all 14 shots she faced.

The No. 5 WD1 Bulldogs, who now sit at 21-7-0 on the season, will wrap up their regular season schedule this coming weekend with a trip to Lynchburg, Virginia where they will take on the No. 1 Liberty University Flames in a two game series. The Bulldogs and Flames will battle at the LaHaye Ice Center at 2:00 PM on Friday, and 3:00 PM on Saturday.
