LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The No. 5 Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia over the weekend to face off against No. 1 Liberty University, but dropped both contests to close out their regular season play.
The two teams opened up their series on Friday afternoon at the LaHaye Ice Center in Lynchburg, but it was the Flames who came out on top by a score of 5-2, which included an empty-net goal in the dying seconds of the game. The Bulldogs received goals from freshman forwards,
Ashlynn Stitt and
Macy Piche. Freshman goaltender,
Judith Schneider, made 19 saves on 23 shots in the loss.
The Bulldogs and Flames battled again on Saturday afternoon, with Adrian looking for revenge. The Bulldogs came out hot and tallied first on a goal by senior forward,
Bria Fewchuk, early in the first period. Fewchuk would tally again just moments later, but the goal was disallowed, preventing the Bulldogs from going up 2-0. The Flames would eventually tie the game at one during the second period, before tallying on the power play with a just over a minute left to go in the final period. Liberty would add an empty-netter to finalize a 3-1 win. Senior goaltender,
Reid Bahr, was lights out as she stopped 34 shots in the loss for Adrian.
The WD1 Bulldogs, who close out the regular season with a 21-9-0 record (14-0-0 Conference record), will now prepare for the CCWHA Division 1 Conference Playoff Tournament this coming weekend at the Crystal Field House in Flint, Michigan. The Bulldogs will face off in a Semifinal game on Saturday at 1:00 PM but will not find out who their opponent is until after the two Quarter-Final games, on Friday, are completed.
