WD1 Hockey Secures Fifth Consecutive CCWHA Playoff Championship in Shutout Over Indiana Tech

BURTON, Mich. -- The Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team shutout Indiana Tech, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon to secure their fifth consecutive CCWHA Conference Playoff Championship. The Bulldogs defeated Miami Ohio, 3-2 in the semi-final on Saturday, before taking down Indiana Tech in the championship.

The Bulldogs and Red Hawks of Miami clashed for the third time this season, in the semi-final game at the Crystal Field House in Burton, Michigan on Saturday, where the CCWHA Division 1 and Division 2 Playoffs were being held. The Red Hawks, who defeated Michigan State University in the quarter-final game on Friday, were looking to get their first win against Adrian this season, but came up one goal short as Allison Shaw, Taylor Robinson, and Tess McKerrow tallied for the Bulldogs to secure the Adrian win. Goaltender, Judith Schneider, made 25 saves in the game to advance the Bulldogs to the championship game.

The Bulldogs, who defeated Indiana Tech, 5-0, in last year's CCWHA Playoff final, were set to take on the Warriors once again for the chance to five-peat as champions. The Warriors and Bulldogs had faced off four times during the regular season with the Warriors winning three of those contests. The Warriors would end up placing first in the CCWHA D1 West Pod, while the Bulldogs placed first in the CCWHA D1 East Pod heading into the Playoff Tournament.

The two teams battled hard defensively keeping the game scoreless until late in the third period when freshman forward, Macy Piche, tallied to put the Bulldogs up by one. The Bulldogs would then get two empty net goals from forwards, Tyla Turnbull and Hailey Wiltshire, to secure the 3-0 victory. Senior goaltender, Reid Bahr, was remarkable in between the pipes, securing her fourth shutout of the season and winning the Most-Valuable-Player award after the game.

The WD1 Bulldogs, who currently sit at No. 5 in the national rankings, also punched their ticket to the ACHA National Tournament in Boston, Massachusetts next month thanks to their Playoff Championship. Seeding and scheduling for the ACHA National Tournament will be released in the coming weeks.
