LEBANON, Ill. – The Adrian College women's wrestling team competed at the McKendree University Bearcat Open Sunday. At the open, senior Angela LoRusso and freshman Isabella Richardson led the Bulldogs with semi-final championship round appearances.
In the 116 class after receiving a bye in the first round, LoRusso would defeat Elvie Villa (McKendree University) and Carisa Epling (Colorado Mesa) en route to a semi-final matchup with Amaya Yoshizumi (North Central College). LoRusso's run would end in the semi-final championship round after she lost by tech fall to Yoshizumi.
After receiving a first-round bye, freshman Isabella Richardson of the 123 class was victorious over Megan Stutsman (McKendree University) in her second round match. Richardson would win via fall over Stutsman to advance to the semi-finals where she would face Marissa Gallegos of Colorado Mesa. In the semi-final round for the first-place title, Gallegos would defeat Richardson via fall.
Today, graduate student Sienna Lejeune of the 191 class saw wins via fall, over Kennedy Eggering (Lindenwood University) and fellow Bulldog Yamilex Perez. In the quarterfinal round for the third-place title, Lejeune was defeated by Sara Lake of Lindenwood University via fall.
Up next: The women's wrestling team will return to Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on Tuesday, February 7, for Senior Night as they host Davenport and Siena Heights. Matches will begin at 7:00 PM.
