ADRIAN, Mich. -- With the regular season and GLCHL Conference Playoffs behind them, the Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team will now look forward to the ACHA National Championship Tournament in Marlborough, Massachusetts at the end of this week, from March 16-21, 2023. The final release of ACHA National Rankings, which came two weeks ago, has the Bulldogs holding the No. 3 seed going into the National Championship Tournament.
In preparation for the tournament, the MD1 Bulldogs held a nationals tune-up game against No. 8 Indiana Tech at the Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday, March 2
nd. The Bulldogs shutout the Warriors, 5-0, while outshooting them, 47-17.
Connor Smith found the back of the net twice to finish the season with 40 goals, while
Matthew DiCesare,
Brenden Stanko, and
Sebastian Smith also tallied for Adrian. Goaltender,
Noah Decottignies, earned his 26
th win and 7
th shutout of the season in the victory.
The Men's Division 1 side of the tournament, which hosts twenty teams from across the country, operates under single-elimination format, starting on Thursday with the play-in rounds featuring seeds 13 through 20. The winners of Thursday's games will then move on to play seeds 1 through 4 on Friday to determine who advances to Sunday's quarterfinals. On Saturday, seeds 5 through 12 will then compete to determine the rest of Sunday's quarterfinal field. The quarterfinal victors will then move on to Monday's semifinals where the playing field will be re-seeded based on national rankings. To conclude the tournament, the National Championship game will be held at 8:00 PM EST on Tuesday, March 21
st.
The No. 3 MD1 Bulldogs' first game of the tournament is scheduled for Friday, March 17
