ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team hosted Case Western Reserve University on Thursday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader. The Bulldogs dropped both the contests by scores of 6-3 and 17-8. Adrian moves to 5-7 on the season after the two losses while Case Western moves to 7-5.
GAME 1
- Case Western struck first in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Travis Liford drove in a run on a RBI ground out which was followed by a RBI single from Don Goodes.
- Case Western responded to regain the lead 3-2 in the sixth inning and extended the lead to 4-2 in the eighth.
- Edward Wagner hit his fourth homer of the year in the bottom of the eighth to pull within a run.
- Case Western added two more in the top of the ninth and held Adrian scoreless to defeat the Bulldogs 6-3.
- Daniel Gutierrez got the start for the Bulldogs throwing a quality seven innings allowing three runs on ten hits with five strikeouts.
GAME 2
- Case Western picked up an early lead scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Later in the second inning, the Spartan bats stayed hot as they extended their lead to 10-0.
- Over the next four innings, Adrian put the score at 10-5 with the help of three home runs. Easton Rogers hit a solo shot in the second inning which was followed by a three-run bomb from Wagner in the third. Ryan Davis went on to hit a solo shot in the fifth.
- Case Western added three runs in the sixth to lead 13-5.
- In the eighth inning, Adrian responded with three runs. Rogers scored on a wild pitch followed by a RBI groundout from Jakob Charles and a RBI single from Jack Boike.
- Case Western scored four in the ninth to win 17-8.
- Don Goodes got the start for Adrian on the mound struggling as he threw 1.2 innings allowing eight runs on six hits. Jaxon Clark went 3.2 innings in relief to lead the bullpen.
