LIMA, Ohio – The Adrian College men's golf team won its first tournament of the season as they traveled to Bluffton University. The tournament was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but due to poor weather conditions, it was changed to a one-day tournament on Sunday. The Bulldogs shot a 296 as a team to place first out of 12 teams.
Hendrik de Koning led the Bulldogs with a 69 on Sunday and was named the individual champion of the tournament. de Koning was the only golfer to shoot under 70 for the tournament.
Trevor Benoit tied for third in the tournament shooting a 71.
Joe Renfer shot a 75 on the day to tie for 12
th while
Ryan Van Eyk shot an 81 and tie for 35th to round out the team's scoring.
Gabe Campbell was the fifth golfer in the starting five and shot an 84.
Christian Long played Sunday as an individual where he finished the day with an 81.
It was the men's basketball coaching staff of Tim Kaiser and Pete Smith who filled in for head golf coach Brent Greenwood who traveled with the women's team to an invitational tournament in Virginia scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Coach Kaiser and Coach Smith led the team to its first tournament win of the season.
The men's golf team will have a week off before heading to Kalamazoo College for the annual Steven Tyler Memorial Tournament at Moors Golf Club scheduled for Monday, April 10
