Delaware, Ohio – The Adrian College softball team swept Ohio Wesleyan Sunday afternoon with 8-1 and 8-0 victories. In game one, pitcher Abbi Patton recorded her fifth win of the season, while Meghan Lupu led all players with three hits. In game two, Macee Schang secured her seventh win of the season, while Karson Bagelmann had a game high four hits.
GAME ONE
During the first game of Sunday's doubleheader in the first inning, Adrian College scored a total of three runs to take an early lead over Ohio Wesleyan. After Bagelmann walked, she made sure to be aggressive and picked up her 10th stolen base of the season. After a recorded out by Ohio Wesleyan, Paige Stein slammed a home run to give the Bulldogs a two-run lead. The Bulldogs continued their aggressiveness. A single by Hailey DeChalk, and a walk by Maggie Leveille, brought Ava Ferrarelli up to the plate. Ferrarelli would conclude the first inning by singling up the middle and driving in DeChalk.
Later during the fourth inning, the softball team was able to tack on another run. After a triple by Baggelmann, Genna Marasco singled up the middle to drive in Bagelmann and improve the lead to four on the afternoon. After Ohio Wesleyan responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Bulldogs would score their last run at the top of the seventh inning, after Flesia Borck singled to right center, advancing Lupu to second and driving in Ava Wolfe in the process. During game one, the pitcher Patton limited Ohio Wesleyan to five hits Sunday.
GAME TWO
In the final game of Sunday's doubleheader, the Bulldogs completed their third shutout over the span of their past five games. Schang followed Patton's strong performance in game one and would only allow four hits in game two. In the second inning, the Bulldogs dominated and scored five runs, and recorded five hits. Leveille would begin the inning with a walk and Ferrarelli would follow with a single. After a wild pitch brought Leveille to third and Ferrarelli to second, McKay doubled to left center field, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. The scoring continued for Adrian College, as Marasco singled to second base and advanced to second on the throw. During the play, McKay scored. Later, Marasco advanced to third on a wild pitch and Borck singled through the left side, driving in her teammate. As the inning progressed, Bagelmann would conclude the scoring off a triple to left center, bringing home Borck for the final run of the second inning.
Later in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, the softball team would score one run in each inning. In the fifth, DeChalk grounded out to third advancing Stein advanced to second, who would advance to third on a throwing error. During the play Lupu scored, propelling the lead to six. Later in the following inning, the Bulldogs would score again, this time off of a Bagelmann double to left center field. Bagelmann would score Marasco and the Bulldogs would lead 7-0.
In the seventh and final inning, the Bulldogs would score their eighth run of the contest. With one out and nobody on, DeChalk doubled to right center field. With Ferrarelli up to bat, she continued the offense after she singled through the left side. On the throw, Ferrarelli would advance to second and Makenzi Johnson would score as DeChalk's pinch runner.
Historical Notes
The Bulldogs have now won five straight contests, marking the second time this season where the softball team would achieve such a feat. For the first time since the 2011 season, the Adrian College softball team has recorded two separate, five game win streaks.
