ALMA, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team opened up the MIAA Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Alma College. The Bulldogs entered with the No. 3 seed and faced off against the No. 2 Scots. Alma went on to win 7-5 to push the Bulldogs to the consolation bracket of the double elimination tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Edward Wagner singled in a run to lead 1-0 which was followed by an RBI double from Ryan Davis.
- Alma responded with three in the bottom of the first to take the lead.
- The Scots continued to score adding one in the second, one in the third, and one in the fourth.
- AJ Miranda hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to make it 6-3 which was backed by another RBI double from Davis and an RBI groundout from Logan Loeffler to make it 6-5.
- Alma added another run in the bottom of the fifth to lead 7-5 to win the game.
- Jakob Charles went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored while Jack Boike went 4-for-5 with a run scored.
- Daniel Gutierrez went six innings on the mound allowing seven runs on ten hits with five strikeouts. Gage Ricker appeared in relief where he threw two innings of shutout baseball.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs will face off against No. 4 Hope College tomorrow on Thursday, May 11 at 1:00 PM at Kalamazoo College. The winner of the elimination game with face the loser of the winner's bracket championship to stay alive in the tournament. If Adrian wins at 1:00 PM, they will play a second game starting at roughly 4:00 PM.
