ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 2 hockey team registered wins over Michigan State University this past weekend, defeating the Spartans on the road on Friday before finishing the sweep on Saturday at the Arrington Ice Arena.
Adrian traveled to Lansing for game one of the home-and-home series with Michigan State where they mustered a 5-2 victory.
Brady DesMadryl,
Brayden Morris,
Michael Tucker,
Gabe Vijuk, and
Matthew Krueger added goals for the Bulldogs. Mathew Ryynanen made 45 saves on 47 shots for the victory in goal.
Adrian and MSU got off to a hot start on Saturday at the AIA, scoring a total of five goals in the opening frame, with MSU leading 3-2 after one period. Bulldog goals came from
Jack Kraemer (PP), and Vijuk. A 1-1 second period, with Tucker scoring for Adrian, had the Spartans up 4-3 heading into the final frame, but it was Adrian's
Bazl Cook who buried his first career college goal to tie the hockey game at 4-4 and force extra time. Overtime solved nothing, therefore a shootout was needed to decide the series. The Bulldogs got the best of the Spartan tender in the shootout, as
Tyler Hissong and
Griffin Clark sealed it for Adrian. Ryynanen saw the ice for a period, allowing three goals on 16 shots, while
Alexander Herman stepped forward in relief, making 25 saves on 26 shots over two periods and overtime to earn the victory.
The MD2 Bulldogs will hit the road to Sault Saint Marie next weekend and face-off against Lake Superior State for two games, followed by a single contest with Sault College.
