ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 3 hockey team took on Ferris State University this past weekend in a home-and-home series, but fell short in two tight games, 3-1 and 5-4.
Adrian went on the road in game one on Friday night where they opened the scoring on a tally from freshman,
Owen Barber, with an assist to
Henry Darnell. Though the Adrian Bulldogs had no answer for Ferris State, as the opposing Bulldogs tacked on three unanswered goals to secure the 3-1 win. In goal for Adrian,
Aidan Knox was stellar, turning aside 41 of 44 shots he faced.
The two teams then clashed again on Sunday afternoon at the Arrington Ice Arena for the series closer. Ferris State continued their offensive pour-on into the first period of game two, taking a 3-0 lead early. Although, Bulldog
James Schmidt tallied his team-leading fourth and fifth goals of the season to bring them closer after one period of play. Down 3-2, the Bulldogs came out firing in period two, with
AJ Guibord scoring his first two college goals to gain the 4-3 lead for the home team. A few minutes later, Ferris tied it up, making it a 4-4 draw heading into the final period of play. With under two minutes remaining in the game and all knotted at 4, the Ferris State Bulldogs found themselves a short-handed goal to put themselves ahead and ultimately steal the win. Adrian goalie,
Rex Goldberg, made 23 saves in the loss.
The MD3 Bulldogs will have a weekend off before returning to the ice against Trine University on October 25-26.
