ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team collected a duo of one-goal wins over the weekend at the Arrington Ice Arena, taking down the Niagara University Purple Eagles on Saturday and Sunday.
The Bulldogs began the weekend with a third period comeback win against their opponents from New York. After a scoreless first stanza,
Hailey Wiltshire opened the scoring on the power-play in the second period of game one of the weekend before the Purple Eagles added two of their own to take the 2-1 lead heading into the third period. A late push from Adrian led to a power-play goal from
Rhea Peterson to tie the game with just over half the final frame to play. Only a couple minutes later, Captain
Tess McKerrow tallied to put the Bulldogs ahead and secure the win.
Rieley Jessie-Gerelli made nine saves in goal for Adrian, earning her second win of the season.
In another low-scoring affair, the Bulldogs managed another win on Sunday to end the series, coming out on top, 2-1. Wiltshire tallied the first Adrian goal for the second game in a row whileÂ
Makenzie Villiard found twine for the game-winner early in period three. Fifth-year goalie,
Amanda Storey, stood in between the pipes for the Bulldogs on Sunday, making 22 saves for her first victory in an Adrian uniform.
The WD1 Bulldogs are set to host Maryville University at the Arrington Ice Arena this Thursday and Friday. Puck drop for game one goes at 7:30 PM, followed by 3:00 PM for game two.
