Men's Wrestling Wraps up Millikin Open with Notable Finishes

Decatur, ILL. – The Adrian College men's wrestling team delivered strong performances at the Millikin Open on Saturday, with several notable individual results across multiple weight classes.

Senior Adrian Rosas dominated the 125-pound bracket. Rosas cruised through the winners' bracket, securing four impressive victories, including two falls, a tech fall, and a major decision. Although he was forced to medically forfeit the first-place match, earning him second on the day.

At 133 pounds, senior Zachary Phifer went 1-2 on the day. Phifer opened strong with a dominant tech fall in his first match, but he faced a tough challenge in the quarterfinals and fell in both his subsequent bouts in the consolation bracket.

Junior Brody Chase competed in the 141-pound weight class and finished with a 2-2 record. Chase opened with a commanding 12-4 major decision win but was eliminated in the consolation rounds after a loss in his next match.

Senior Sam Ross put together a run at 149 pounds, finishing in sixth place with a 5-1 record. After a tough first-round loss, Ross bounced back with five consecutive wins to reach the fifth-place match, where he ultimately placed sixth due to a no contest.

Sophomore Connor Williams wrestled at 165 pounds and also showed resilience, going 2-2 on the day. Williams won his first two matches by pin and tech fall, but after falling in the quarterfinals, he couldn't advance past the consolation rounds.

Sophomore Dominik Whitesel had a strong showing at 174 pounds, finishing with a 2-2 record. After a first-round loss, Whitesel fought back with back-to-back wins by decision and major decision, but his tournament run ended in the third round of the consolation bracket.

Senior Blake Williams turned in an impressive performance at 184 pounds, finishing in fourth place. Williams received a first-round bye, then rolled through the second and third rounds with two dominant tech fall victories. After a semifinal loss, he battled back to secure fourth place with a major decision win in the final.

Sophomore Daxton Looney the 197-pounder faced a tough day, finishing with an 0-2 record after falling in both the opening rounds and the consolation bracket.

In the heavyweight division, junior Shan Swank went 1-2. After a first-round bye, Swank earned a win in the consolation bracket by tech fall but was eliminated in the third round by fall.

The Bulldogs will return to the mat on November 17, when they host the annual Adrian College Duals.
