ADRIAN, Mich. -- The No. 6 Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team closed its 2024 calendar year and Fall semester schedule with an 8-2 win over the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines on Thursday night at the Arrington Ice Arena, completing the series sweep over the Wolverines.
The Bulldogs previously clashed with the Wolverines back on November 19 in Dearborn where the road team collected an 8-0 triumph to open the two-game set. On Thursday, Adrian went for the sweep and did just that as they pounded eight goals past rival UM-Dearborn to close the semester.
After the Wolverines scored early on the power-play to open the scoring, the Bulldogs answered back and controlled the contest for the remainder of the night, aside from some penalty trouble throughout the game. Scoring for Adrian in tonight's win was
Sebastian Smith,
Hunter Allen,
Ethan McLaughlin,
Alex Schaumburger,
Nash Hatcher,
Keegan DeCaluwe,
Cameron Armstrong, and
Cale Strasky, who potted his first career ACHA goal. McLaughlin added three helpers in the win to finish with four total points, while
Nathaniel Mott collected four helpers on the backend. Allen and Hatcher both ended their nights with two points apiece.
Senior goaltender,
Noah Decottignies, made 15 saves on 17 shots for Adrian in his fourth win of the season. With three shutouts already in 2024-25, Decottignies also set the new program record earlier this semester for career shutouts with 21, passing Michael Barrett's previous record of 19.
The MD1 Bulldogs close the first semester with a 17-1-2 record, as well as a 4-0-0 GL6 conference record. The team will head home for the Christmas break and return to the ice in 2025 on Thursday, January 16 against Western Michigan University at the Arrington Ice Arena.
Bulldog Captain,
Sebastian Smith, joined us after tonight's game to recap the win and the first semester.
