BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Adrian College baseball team began its 2024 season on Friday afternoon as they took on Wheaton College (Ill.) at Birmingham Southern. The Bulldogs started the season with a victory as they came away with a 9-5 win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after taking advantage of a Wheaton error which brought in a pair of runs.
• The Bulldogs struck again in the fifth inning on an RBI double from Easton Rogers which was followed by another Wheaton error in the fifth, which led to a run, and an RBI single from Edward Wagner to lead 5-0.
• Adrian powered up in the seventh inning launching a pair of home runs to extend the lead. AJ Miranda hit a solo shot followed by a two-run homer from David Kedrow to lead 8-0. Later in the inning, Jakob Charles singled in another run.
• Wheaton sparked a rally in the eighth inning where they scored five runs, but couldn't complete the comeback.

TOP DAWGS

• Charles and Ryan Davis each finished the day with three hits while Miranda and Rogers recorded two.
• Daniel Gutierrez recorded the win on Friday where he finished the day with five innings pitched while allowing no runs on three hits with eight strikeouts.
• Lincoln Lipinski and Tripp Russo combined for three shutout innings in relief while Ambrose Horwath allowed five runs with two earned in his first collegiate appearance.
• Adrian recorded 14 hits on offense to start the season while the pitching staff struck out 11.
