ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College club baseball team faced Western Michigan University over the weekend with a three-game series at Nicolay Field. The Bulldogs swept the Broncos by scores of 12-2, 13-2, and 6-3. Adrian moves its winning streak to seven games.
Adrian exploded for 15 hits in game one of the series led by a 4-for-5 performance from
Ty Perin.
Jesse Leyva added three hits while
Brock Hudik,
Remington Gielniak, and
Stephan Aumaitre added two.
Jack Whitehead added four RBIs for Adrian with the help of an inside the park home run.
Colton Hicks started on the mound for Adrian where he allowed two unearned runs on five hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.
Adrian went on to win game two of the series in five innings. Adrian scored five in the first, three in the second, three in the third, and two in the fourth. The Bulldogs totaled 11 hits on the day led by a three-hit performance by Whitehead. Leyva and
Connor Davies each added a pair of hits.
Joe Postma pitched for Adrian where he allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
The Bulldogs completed the sweep on Sunday afternoon after jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Western Michigan scored three in the sixth which was answered by one from Adrian in the bottom of the inning. Perin led Adrian again with three hits on the afternoon.
Jack Florig pitched a complete game where he allowed three unearned runs on four hits while striking out eight.
The Bulldogs will pick up action at home on Wednesday, April 24 when they host Michigan State University. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM where Adrian will look to extend its winning streak to eight games.
