Club Baseball Sweeps Central Michigan in Three Game Weekend Series

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Adrian College NCBA club baseball team traveled to Central Michigan University over the weekend where the team competed in a three-game series. The Bulldogs went on to sweep Central Michigan on the road winning Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 8-4 and 8-5 followed by Sunday's victory of 9-8. The Bulldogs move to 9-9 on the season after the sweep.
 
In game one, Adrian started the scoring early scoring a run in the top of the first followed by four runs in the second. After Central Michigan scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth, Adrian added three in the seventh to pull ahead. Central Michigan added two in the bottom of the inning, but fell short of the comeback. Connor Davies led the offense with four hits in the opening game while Remington Gielniak and Jesse Leyva each added three hits. Jack Whitehead collected three RBIs. Joe Postma picked up the win on the mound throwing six innings allowing one earned run on three hits.
 
Adrian and Central Michigan traded runs in the first and second innings of game two before the late rally from Adrian. The Bulldogs added three in the fifth, on in the sixth, and three in the seventh. Central Michigan had answered Adrian as the teams entered the seventh inning tied, 5-5, but Central Michigan was shutout in the bottom of the inning to give the Bulldogs and 8-5 win. Whitehead and Ty Perin led the team with two hits each in the second game of the series while Jacob Sikanas drove in a pair of runs. Jack Florig got the start for the Bulldogs where he three 5.1 innings allowing four earned runs on eight hits. Sam Fosmoen earned the win in relief.
 
The series finale went nine innings on Sunday with Adrian pulling ahead 9-8. The Bulldogs scored two in the top of the first which was answered by two in the second from Central Michigan. The Bulldogs held a 5-4 lead entering the eighth where they went on to add four runs with the help of a pair of RBI doubles. Central Michigan added one in the bottom of the eighth and three in the ninth, but fell short of the late comeback. Sikanas led Adrian with three hits while Whitehead, Davies, and Perin each added two. Davies led the team with three RBIs in the series finale. Colton Hicks earned the start on the mound throwing six innings allowing two earned runs on four hits.
 
Adrian's next contest is a single home game on Tuesday, April 16 when they host Eastern Michigan University at 7:30 PM. The Bulldogs will look for revenge on Eastern Michigan as this will serve as the fifth matchup of the season between the two teams with Adrian looking for its first win of the series.
