ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College MD3 hockey team headed out to rival Trine University Saturday evening with a 4-1 victory, then hosting Trine Sunday afternoon in a dominate 5-0 victory, sweeping the Thunder.
Saturday evening, the Bulldogs got on the board first with senior
Gavin Scally in the first period. Adrian went into the second period with the 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored right away in the second period from Nicholas Therrien to extend their lead to two. Trine found the back of the net halfway through the second period to cut Adrian's lead down to 1. The Bulldogs were able to put two more in the back of the net in the third, with goals from sophomore
Nolan Doersch and junior
Gavin Daum to give the Bulldogs the upper hand and 4-1 victory. Senior

Anthony Alfonsi (2), junior
James Schmidt, junior
Maxim Sorel, and senior
Henry Darnell all added assists. Sophomore
Ryan Rainey was between the pipes for the Bulldogs making 11 saves on 12 shots.
After a scoreless first period Sunday, the Bulldogs were on fire in the second period scoring all five of their goals. Alfonsi opened up the scoring just 13 seconds into the second period, with Darnell getting the assist. Scally followed up just shortly after to extend their lead to two. Adrian had two back-to-back goals from junior
Brett Whitten at the 8:24 mark and Therrien at the 9:15 mark. With 20 seconds left in the second period Darnell found the back of the net. The third period found no scorers. Sunday's game highlighted a shutout from
Peyton Lenger recording 16 saves in the game.
The MD3 Bulldog hockey team will be back in action Saturday and Sunday for a home-and-home series against Cemtral Michigan University. Saturday will be held at Central for a 3:30 PM puck drop while Sunday will be home for a 1:00 PM puck drop.
