MD2 Earns Statement Win in Weekend Split with No. 6 Michigan State

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College ACHA Men's D2 hockey team split with No. 6 Michigan State this weekend, with a 5-3 victory Friday evening at Michigan State and falling 5-4 Saturday evening at home.

The Bulldogs started off strong Friday evening, with Bazl Cook to open up the scoring at 5:06 mark on the power play and Braeden Mcnamara tailing an assist. The Bulldogs went up 1-0 after the first period. Mcnamara kept the Bulldogs rolling as he tailed himself a goal to start the second period, Jack Kraemer added a helper. Adrian extended their lead to three when Greg Obrycki found the back of the net with help from Logan Jent and Easton Green. The Bulldogs 3-0 lead would be short lived as Michigan State capitalized twice right away, both on the power play. First goal at 19:21 and second goal just 20 seconds later to close out the second period with the Bulldogs still leading 3-2. Tyler Hissong tallied himself two goals in the third period, while the Spartans added another goal on the scoreboard but wouldn't be enough for the Spartans. Goaltender Lorenzo Culasso was between the pipes for the Bulldogs recording 47 saves on 50 shots.

Saturday evening, the Bulldogs grabbed the early lead from Mcnamara with help from Kraemer and Jackson Hildebrand. However, Adrian's lead would be short lived as the Spartans scored three unanswered goals to close out the first period. The Bulldogs fighting back the rest of the game to come back into it with Dylan Braun finding the back of the net just 1:31 into the second period. Michigan State went on to score two more goals, however, Cook brought the score to 5-3 to close out the second period. Almost halfway through the third period, Cook netted his second goal of the night on the power play but it just wouldn't be enough to complete the comeback. Hissong, Shaun Potts, John Carper, and Gabe Arteaga all added helpers to the scoresheet.

The MD2 Bulldogs now sit at a 7-5 overall record as they hope to roll this weekend over to next weekend as they host Sault College Friday and Saturday. Puck drop set for 10:00 PM Friday night and 11:00 AM Saturday morning. These two teams meet just a few weeks ago as they split the series up north.
